Portraits in 2021
2020 has been an unforgettable year that most of us are keen to forget. I lost my beloved dog, Storm, in March and then my mother in August. My eldest daughter has spent a year doing her Physics degree on a laptop from our living room, instead of her university laboratories and Jodrell Bank, and my younger two have missed completely their AS Levels and GCSEs. Staring at a screen all day is hard for them all, as is being virtually confined to the house. They’re all Air Cadets and 2020 was due to be a spectacular summer for them – staffing the Royal International Air Tattoo, Leadership courses at RAF Cranwell, sailing a tall ship around the British coast and weeks of watersports at summer camp. My heart aches for them and for everyone affected.
I photographed my middle daughter recently – what incredible strength she shows and I’m so happy to have this expression captured. I’ve decided to make an effort to photograph us all more often this year – proper portraits, not just the phone camera shots….
